In 1956, Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr., Filemon C. Rodriguez and Ernesto O. Escaler formed Philippine Investment Management (Phinma), Inc. (www.phinma.com.ph) then the first Filipino-managed investment firm. The group purchased a cement plant in Bacnotan, La Union and incorporated a new company Bacnotan Cement Industries, Inc. The company was later renamed to Bacnotan Consolidated Industries, Inc. (BCII).
The first fifty years of the company were marked by investments in heavy industry, particularly in the manufacture of cement, steel roofing, energy and paper. In 2004, BCII exited from the paper and cement industries, and focused its efforts in the services sector of business enterprise.
BCII’s new mission is to help build the nation through competitive and well-managed business enterprises that will make life better for Filipinos, particularly through the housing, education, energy and financial services sectors. The company and its subsidiaries aim to build affordable and decent homes, offer high-quality education at affordable costs, provide reliable power and offer attractive investment opportunities to encourage capital formation.
